Requirements for Naturalization
Arnold "Arnie" Gardner, the immigration attorney at the Law Office of Arnold G. Gardner, Jr., PLLC, knows the requirements for applying for and receiving U.S. citizenship. Applicants need to fulfill specific requirements created by Congress in order to receive naturalization. These requirements include:

  • continuous residence in the United States for five years (three if the spouse of a USC)
  • residence in the immigration district where the application is filed
  • ability to read, write, and speak English
  • knowledge of U.S. history and government;
  • good moral character
  • knowledge of and attachment to the principles of the United States Constitution
  • positive disposition toward the United States

Obstacles to Citizenship
Some of these requirements, such as the language requirements, or residency requirements in some circumstances can be waived. Other obstacles to citizenship, such as a criminal conviction or temporary absence from the United States, can often be handled by a skilled citizenship lawyer. Contact the experienced U.S. citizenship attorney, Arnie Gardner, at the Law Office of Arnold G. Gardner, Jr., PLLC, to learn how they can help you become a naturalized United States citizen. Attorney Gardner will help you understand the requirements, the process, and assist with filing the appropriate forms, such as the N-400 application for citizenship.

Automatic Paths to Citizenship
Some people do not need to follow the naturalization process in order to become U.S. citizens. For example, almost any child born in the United States is automatically a citizen, whatever the status of the parents. Children born outside the U.S. whose parent or parents are U.S. citizens  sometimes are automatically U.S. citizens themselves. Dual citizenship is often possible when children are born outside the parents’ country of citizenship. Some children are automatically citizens upon the naturalization of their parents. For more information about different ways of acquiring citizenship, contact the immigration and naturalization attorney at the Law Office of Arnold G. Gardner, Jr., PLLC.   Knowing that there is a knowledgeable attorney at your side can provide peace of mind to you when you are seeking U.S. citizenship.
